Facilities available at IMF

The complex consists of the offices:

Library cum Reading room

The IMF library cum reading room set up in the complex is intended to provide facilities for research work and also to serve as an information window to cater to the needs of Indian and foreign expeditions, the press and others interested in the mountain sports. The library also maintains, up-to-date maps, photographs and films and acts as an information and documentation center having data base on peaks.


IMF has a 200 capacity air-conditioned auditorium called Sarin Hall where film/slide shows, lectures and seminars are held.


IMF has three dormitories having a capacity to accommodate 10 persons in each.


A canteen in the Complex provides messing facilities for Indian and foreign mountaineers and trekkers.


A two-tier hall houses the Tenzing Norgay Museum in which exhibits, pictures, panoramas and dioramas etc. depict various facets of the Himalayas, history of exploration, survey of the mountain peaks and development of mountaineering. The focus has been on mountaineering in the Indian Himalaya, with a section on Documentation and Information. It includes prominent sections on maps of the Himalayan states of India with a unique "professional class centre" of maps, panoramas and climbing and trekking routes.

 Sport Climbing Wall

Sport Climbing wall is available from Tuesday to Sunday .  Timings are:  9.00 a.m  to 1.00 p.m  and  4.00 p,m. to 8.00 p.m.  at Rs 150 /-per session.  For groups(minimum 30), activities are  available  viz.  Sport Climbing, Burma Bridge, Tyre Swing, Tyroleon Travers(Rope Crossing), Commando Net, Rope Ladder, Crawling through tunnel, natural rocks etc.   Prior intimation is required.
