UIAA Asia Forum
The UIAA-Asia forum consultancy meeting to discuss the future of the UIAA took place on 17 June 2006 at Ashok Hotel, New Delhi , in which a total of 13 delegates (UIAA President, Japan , Nepal and India ) took part. The meeting was hosted by the Indian Mountaineering Foundation. Salient features of the proposals submitted by Mr Pierre Humblet, UIAA President, for obtaining views of the Asian Countries were:
- Branches of the UIAA- There should be 3 branches of the UIAA under the umbrella of UIAA Foundation, new name proposed by the Board:
- UIAA Mountaineering to deal with non competitive activities by involving National Federations.
- UIAA Climbing which may deal with all season sports by involving National Federations or Associations recognized by National Olympic Committee (NOC).
- UIAA Ski Mountaineering which should deal with Winter Competitive Sports by involving National Federations recognized by NOCs with the Olympic aims.
- Fee Structure: Fee shall be based on the Members of the National Member Federations of the UIAA Mountaineering, UIAA Climbing and UIAA SKI Mountaineering. National Federations have the choice to join either all or any one or two branches of the UIAA Foundation.
President, IMF, Major HPS Ahluwalia highlighted the gross neglect of conservation of Himalayas as a total Natural System, the climate maker and the water giver, threat to Hill Spring Water supply and destabilization of the life support systems and suggested inclusion of Research and Study of Glaciology Branch in the revised organizational Structure of the UIAA.
